YouTube’s recommendation system optimizes for session length and engagement. By sequencing videos, it builds creator relationships and reinforces themes over time. What feels like passive viewing is often guided by recommendation logic.
How To Export Your Data
Step 1: Go to Google Takeout
On a computer or mobile browser, go to takeout.google.com.
Ensure you are logged into the Google account associated with your child’s YouTube activity.
Step 2: Deselect All, Select YouTube
Click “Deselect all” at the top of the page.
Scroll down and check only “YouTube and YouTube Music.”

Choose “Send download link via email.”
Select “Export once.”
Choose file size (2GB is suitable for most users) and file type (ZIP).

Click “Create export.”
Google will prepare your data.
This typically takes between 2 to 8 hours, depending on account size.
Step 5: Download the Archive
Once the export is ready, you will receive an email with a download link.
Download the .zip file. If the archive is large, it may be split into multiple files.
